Crystal Shawanda, a Native American and citizen of both the U.S. and Canada, was born in Ontario and grew up on the Wikwemikong reservation on Canada’s Manitoulin Island. Growing up witnessing the hopelessness and despair of so many friends and family, Crystal turned to her music which she credits for saving her life. Music is her lifeline. Her powerful, high-energy performances are what landed Crystal her record deal. In Ojibwe, Shawanda means “Dawn of a New Day” and a new day is what music has given Crystal. Crystal’s debut album, Dawn Of A New Day is out in stores now.
